Implant update...

As I posted in my previous blog, Friday marked my second step in the implant process. However, I didn't know that being so young meant I didn't have to have any bone grafting done. Yippee! One less step! So I went in and had the screw placed in my jaw. Sounds pretty awful, but it wasn't that bad.

The morning started with my dad making me breakfast (four egg whites and some toast) and then taking 2000mg of antibiotics. 2000mg!! Usually one dose (500mg) of this antibiotic makes my tummy queasy... so I couldn't wait to feel the war that would inevitably be going on in my tum tum. So I ate some yogurt and hoped the pro-biotics would kick the antibiotics in the butt and not wage war on my insides. It helped a bit, but not as much as I would have liked.

I arrived at the dentist's office around 9:30am and then went back to the operating room and then got "floaty air" aka nitrous oxide. It was the alternative to going completely under a general anesthesia. It felt like I was floating... it was intense! Even though I was awake the entire time and I was able to hear everything... I didn't care! haha

The dentist literally cut my gums open, and scraped my jaw bone and then placed a screw down into my jaw. With a wrench/screw driver (at least that's what it sounded like) he literally placed the screw into my jaw. I now have a screw in my jaw. Awesome! By the time I left, I was completely "sober" and didn't feel any of the affects of the nitrous oxide, but half of my tongue and my lips were still completely numb. It was an awkward feeling. I was able to walk out of the office and head home to my cold and soft food diet for the next twenty-four hours.

I quickly ditched those orders and had pizza that night. Cut it up into pieces and chewed on one side of my mouth. I have been doing that for a few meals now. It seems to be working out for me just fine.

The only complaint I have now is the fact my stitches are REALLY bugging me now... but I had virtually no pain after the surgery. Little to no swelling... no complaints!

Until next time...
