What a year to graduate

It's everywhere... thousands of jobs cut... unemployment rate highest since depression... another massive lay off in some big company.... Entering the workforce right now is something that should scare anyone. I am one of those people. I see articles in BBC telling me how 533,000 jobs were cut in November ALONE. Well I graduate from PLNU with a BA in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Public Relations on December 17th. The question everyone seems to be asking me.... "Now what?" Good question.

I'm still searching for what I am to do next. If I could have my "dream job" I would probably want to live in Europe and work for an event planning company in London or Dublin. However, I would miss my family and my friends here in the states.

Knowing I want to move home to be closer to my family and of course, the free rent in this recession economy... I've been seeking for advice from those in the workforce already. My search has led me to searching CraigsList and SLOJobs.com. Go ahead and check out my potential success with those sites. It's looking pretty slim right now.

I have sent my résumé out to probably 50 different companies up and down California, and have receive many "thanks, but no thanks" and "good luck with the job search" emails. How discouraging?! I've been told I'm not qualified for an administrative assistant position because I haven't had full time experience. Apparently pushing paper in school full-time for three and a half years isn't good enough. *shrugs*

Many have dubbed my generation the "Me Generation"... Pretty much we're awesome or at least we think we are. I'm no exception to this. However, I feel like at 22 I have the résumé to back up my confidence in finding a job. So I decided to graduate early to get a jump start on my peers in regards to the job search. Who knew I would be entering this type of economy when I made these plans two years ago...?

Alas, I'm keeping my head up and looking for any and every lead I could possibly pursue.

Stay tuned for any updates in my life after college!

Until next time...
