I am psychic...

I have a secret for all of you... I know where I will be sitting on March 30th, 2009... I will be back in the jury assembly room in the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse. Lucky me right? *sigh* Not quite.

So here are the juicy details...

Well I get up this morning around 9:45am thanks to my boyfriend calling to make sure I was up. Though I had heard my alarm many times, I was hoping I was dreaming about this whole idea of being a juror. I was nervous for some reason and really, who am I to judge someone? The ultimate judgement will be in front of some pearly gates, let the true judgement come then is my policy. Anyways... I roll of of bed, get ready in a flash and then head up to SLO. Well on the way I decided I needed (yes needed) an amazing bagel from Broadway Bagel Company... FABULOUS bagels... So I stopped there and then kept making the trek to SLO. I get to the courthouse in the nick of time, go through the metal detector and then head to the jury assembly room. To those lucky enough to not have been summoned yet, the jury assembly room is this big room full of a lot of unhappy people. I was definitely the youngest by ten years. I realized later it was because Cal Poly was in session and many others were too, so all the students were gone. (Lucky!!) Anyways...

So I sit there, reading my book, (Eclipse), trying to avoid the creeper next to me -- who noticed my obvious annoyance with the fact the courthouse has free wi-fi and I didn't bring my laptop -- who tried to make conversation with me. However I was saved soon by the women (who was very nice actually) who read of the procedures and explained how everything would be happening. After that was over, we were told that the cases had decided to take a break and would reconvene at 1:30pm that afternoon. Mind you it's only 11:30am. Half hour into my service. So rather than driving home, I decided to just hang out in downtown SLO and probably go to a coffee shop and just read my amazing book.

Many of you who know me and have hung out with me know I have this unique talent to attract creepers. It's true. It's not something I enjoy, but hey, it happens. Well this unique talent seemed to be in full flare today. While sitting in the Starbucks, I had a creeper who was probably 40 or 50 and apparently forgot how to shower a couple of months back (stinky) sit down really close to me and ask me about my book. He then started gushing about Edward and I was completely caught off guard and promptly said "well I have to go to jury duty" and ran out the door practically. Creeper avoided! *phew*

While walking back to the court house (about an hour early), I was talking to Ryan on the phone and telling him about my creepers when another one walked up behind me. I was talking, but noticed he was keeping pace with me no matter the pace I picked. I figured that I was safe seeing as I was in front of the court house so I didn't give it much thought. Well as soon as I hung up with Ryan, this guy is talking to me. "So excited about jury duty?" "sure am!" (I lied) and then kept reading my book. This guy caught on (thankfully) and pulled out his book and asked if he could read next to me. "SURE!" I said thankful someone would allow me to read in peace.

Disclaimer: I really do enjoy talking to people, and I am what you'd call a "creeper magnet" however if you have read the Twilight books, you understand my frustration when all you want to do is read and people keep interrupting. Rather frustrating.

Moving on... so 1:30pm rolls around and I go back into the jury assembly room. The same very nice woman comes back and tells us that the first group will be assigned a case the will last through January 16th. Well immediately I knew that WASN'T possible for me. I had a doctor's appointment in San Diego on Friday January 9th and I started work with Simply Clear Marketing Inc. on the 15th of January. So that was a no-go. Of course, I get picked!! I filled out the piece of paper called the "hardship form" and turned it in. Even though I did that along with many others, we were told to go to the courtroom anyways.

We heard from both sides giving a snapshot of the case and I was bummed I couldn't be considered for the case! It was a vehicular manslaughter case and it sounded interesting! So much better than some ridiculous juvenile suit or something. By this time it was 3:00pm and I was finally excused, but I HAD to pick another date. The fact I had sat there from 11am to 3:00pm wasn't enough for the court system. Pa-LEASE! *sigh*

So I picked a dated in March.

March 30th.

Therefore, I'm a psychic.

Until next time.......

  1. At least your psychic instead of psycho :)

You'll probably find yourself using the "Jury Duty" excuse more around creepy guys in the future.
