However, I'm not as nervous as this blog may make me sound. I'm really good at interviews (or so I've been told in the past) but the fact it's my first "real" interview, puts that much more pressure on me. This is as close to a cold interview I've ever been. My previous jobs have been within the Point Loma family and so my reputation was known and I knew the people I was going to interview with at some level. This interview is slightly different. I have been talking with the woman I will be meeting with via email, but that's it. I am to show up at a Starbucks in San Luis Obispo and hope she will be there first and see a confused, scared yet professional in the making (me) and hope she won't make me walk up to random tables asking "are you Heather?" How terrifying!
The title of this blog may intrigue some and so I'm going to indulge you on the meaning of the "civil service" part since the nerves section was covered above. Well I have been going to school in San Diego since August of 2005. Throughout that time, I have been postponing my "duty" as a citizen to show up for jury duty. Now that I'm a graduate, no job, no school, really nothing but a book needing my attention, I, of course, was summoned for this afternoon. YIKES! I am supposed to have a job interview today. What was I supposed to do? I was not going to delay the interview to go sit in a room with people I don't know and be question by a lawyer in hopes to get paid 15 bucks a day... no thanks.

So I called last night to see when I was supposed to report. Of course, I was put on telephone stand-by and told to call between 11:30am and noon today. *sigh* So I didn't want to just no-show so I called the SLO Courts and asked what I should do since I was no longer allowed to postpone on my service yet again according to the website. The woman I spoke with said I could postpone my service if I mailed in the bottom part of my summons and I would be called in a few months. Well, rather than just doing that right away, I decided to call in and see if I would be excused. That way I wouldn't have to worry about picking a time in the future to possibly miss work. What a hassle right?
So I called in at 11:30am on the dot (more like 11:29am I think) and was told by the lovely recording that I was now on phone stand-by even longer and supposed to call back after 5:30pm tonight. *sigh* So my hopes are that I will just be dismissed without having to go in. What an impression to make on a new job. "Oh thanks for hiring me, but I have to go to jury duty! toodles!" Not an option in my book.
My opinion on jury duty isn't fairly being judged in this blog. Those who know me, know that I do enjoy the legal process... or the idea of it. The system itself might be antiquated, but I do think being on a jury would be fun. Granted I don't get placed on a jury with the defendant and the plaintiff complaining about grass being too high or something ridiculous like that. Something like you'd see on Law & Order! THAT would be incredible!
Well I'm off to get ready (yes HOURS early) for my interview this afternoon. I will be sure to blog about it this evening or tomorrow.
Until next time!

Hope you don't get caught up with jury duty...I've been lucky to avoid it so far. GL with your interview!
